Blackbird Leys Bowls Club has been at the heart of the Blackbird Leys community for over 59 years, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. We offer an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the sport of lawn bowls. Whether you prefer the traditional outdoor game on our six summer rinks or the indoor Short-Mat Bowls during the winter, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
We maintain strong ties with the local council and collaborate with Bowls Clubs across Oxfordshire. Established in 1966, our club has flourished over the decades and will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2026. Originally a council-run facility since 1958, we transitioned to independent management in 1965 and have continued to thrive.
We pride ourselves on being fully inclusive and family-oriented, welcoming individuals regardless of age, gender, or ability. Our facilities are designed to be accessible to all, with wheelchair-friendly access, mobility scooter accommodation, and disabled toilet facilities.
The club is managed by a dedicated committee of ten members which incorporates the President, Treasurer, Secretary and Chairperson who meet monthly to oversee the club's daily operational running and activities. An Annual General Meeting is held for all members. As a community-focused sports and social facility, the club operates for the benefit of its members rather than as a business.
Our clubhouse is available for private hire, complete with a fully equipped bar and kitchen. As an inclusive space, the Club and Clubhouse offer vibrant social activities, complemented by 5-star rated kitchen facilities and a well-stocked bar. If you wish to use the kitchen, a Food Hygiene Certificate is required, but if unavailable, our catering staff will assist in meeting your needs. Bar staff can also be arranged for hire, with costs explained upon booking.
With a private car park and dedicated spaces at the front of the clubhouse, we ensure convenient access for all visitors. Our aim is to provide an inclusive, social, and sporting facility that brings people together through a shared love of bowls and community engagement.
The club is officially recognised as a Community Amateur Sports Club, with no membership restrictions. We are affiliated with Bowls England (Affiliation Number: 27008) and Bowls Oxfordshire. Over the years, we have continued to expand our facilities, incorporating additional sports such as darts and enhancing our social entertainment options. Our goal is to ensure the club remains a vibrant community hub, aiming for our 100th anniversary in 2066.
